Deviation Actions

Yesterday marks 10 months away from social media, and today I'm officially ending that. I had originally intended on being off for 12 months, but in light of a nagging idea that took light in my mind months ago, I've decided to take action.

I had the idea of starting a online conceptual photography magazine. One that provides constant inspiration to photographers like me around the world, and that gives back to that community by supporting those artists by paying them to publish their work. And hopefully one that can teach photographers new skills to further develop their work.

And to me, that idea became a very, very big deal.

I'm lucky to live in an area that has a very involved art community. I've met some incredible people, and without this community I wouldn't have become the artist I am today. I would not have pursued those photographs that I imagined I'd be doing when I first picked up a camera when I was fifteen. I would never have imagined what could be done also without the online world showing me simply what was possible - which was anything.

But I also see a world where that work in which we throw ourselves so passionately into is not respected.

I don't expect people who are not artists to understand how it's not just something we like to do, it's an overwhelming and impossible need for us to create, how we keep our sanity and how we feel free. But if I can do just one small thing to give back to my community and maybe help show that art isn't just something easy or free, then I want to do that. I do not want to wait. I don't have much to give right now, but hopefully with time that will change.

So, dear world, I give you...

The first issue will launch (hopefully) on August 1st, will cost 5$ per digital copy and 20$ for the printed version. The magazine will feature 5 portfolio's and interviews with artists, who are being paid for their work. The magazine will also have submissions for single images, which are unpaid, but maybe that could someday change. (I'm just poor myself).

This is both incredibly exciting and terrifying, and I hope that means it will be an amazing and fulfilling journey.
